The Stunning Underwater Sculptures of Jason DeCaires

Posted by on May 6, 2013

underwater sculpturesIn the beautiful depths of the waters on the coast of Grenada, are works of art that look as if it came from Atlantis. The colors of the artist made reef include vivid pink, green, orange and yellow. The life sized concrete sculptures of Jason deCaires were lowered to the ocean floor in the hopes that they would become permanent art installations and structures for the tropical sea creatures in the deep. This made me think of a character from Pirates of the Caribbean who had become part of the sea itself. Coral reefs are in danger, but they are very vital to the overall health of the sea. In addition to attracting plenty of sea life  coral reefs provide enclosed spaces for sea life to breed. Artificial reefs are great because they allow natural reefs to repair and regenerate. I have to say what a creative and gorgeous way to improve the health of our oceans and raise awareness of how important our coral reefs are to the rest of the planet.
