Our friends at Kellyco have done it again and given us ANOTHER great product to get excited about.

Garrett Metal Detectors is known in the U.S. as one of the most dependable, all-American success stories that is still going strong. They make everything from hobby metal detectors to wand scanners used at airports and large events. Everything they make is still produced in America and their entry-level metal detectors, the ACE 150 and 250, are easily the most popular metal detectors on the market today.

So when our Kellyco contact told us about an EXcelerator coil (which we just blogged about because we get so many questions about them) available for Garrett’s ACE series metal detectors, we were just as excited to share this news with you as they were to share it with us.

These are the coils everyone is talking about. EXcelerator coils are normally only made for White’s and Minelab metal detectors - the high end ones at that. But now the 10 x 14″ EXcelerator coil is available for the Garrett ACE 150 and 250 - machines EVERYONE can afford.

Here’s what Kellyco’s website says about them: ALL NEW 10 x 14″ EXcelerator II EQ2 Pro Search Coil

Pirate Washes Ashore with Treasure

Published by admin under News

Karma is nothing to joke about and this is proof as to why (in my opinion anyway)…

Five Somalian pirates reportedly drowned on Friday when their small boat capsized in rough seas off of the coast of Somalia. They had just received a ransom payment of $3million U.S. dollars for releasing a captive Saudi Oil tanker and so far one of the pirates has washed ashore with $153,000 cash in his pockets.

Three of the pirates in the small boat survived the capsizing, but lost their share of the money. One Pirate is still missing, along with his share of the ransom.

Experts say that this is unlikely to deter future attacks. “The loss or potential loss of the ransom means the next pirates will be all the more keen to get the next ransom in. There are people lining up to be pirates.”

The ransom was for The Sirius Star, captured by pirate’s last November enroute from Saudi Arabia to the United States. It is believed to be the largest ship ever captured by pirates.

As for the pirate business… the Somalian coastline is a haven for pirates who attacked 111 ships in the Gulf of Aden during 2007 alone.

Again, karma is real in my opinion. It’s a shame a life had to be lost, but hopefully this WILL deter others from opting for this way of life.

“Change Hunters” vs. “Treasure Hunters” - Who Does Better?

Published by admin under Waste of Time

I just read an article about one family that collected over $1,000 in coins…

Nothing impressive there. I know guys who turn in one year’s worth of clad and have well over $1,000.

But these people are NOT treasure hunters. They’re “change hunters” and they pick up spare change (read: clad) wherever it lies; forgotten, tossed aside, and uncared for. No metal detector required.

The only tool at their disposal is their eyes. Well, and apparently some hand sanitizer and a coin purse.

The Humphreys family has collected over $1,000 in the last three years, so it certainly takes them a lot longer to find money above-ground only. But I think what they’re doing is a great idea - respecting our U.S. currency and making money while they’re at it.

They look everywhere a metal detector can’t go: Sidewalks, gutters, intersections, vending machines, grocery store lines, and parking lots just to name a few.

In the end, I don’t think anyone does better than the other if we both come out ahead! And for all the clad they can’t spot, hiding in the grass and under the soil, I’ll be there to grab it!

Coin Auction Could Net $50 Million in Orlando, FL

Published by admin under Events

Well this was some surprising, somewhat local, news for us.

An upcoming coin auction in Orlando, FL. will include the sale of five U.S. coins minted in 1915 and auctioneers expect them to net around $50 million in sales. There will even be gold and silver coins once owned by Egyptian King Farouk, who lived from February 1920 to March 1965.

Heritage Auction Galleries President Gregory J. Rohan said “If coins could talk, this widely traveled set would have quite the story to tell. They were part of the famous coin collection of King Farouk that the Egyptian government sold at the palace in Cairo in 1954 after he was exiled.”

The auction will take place January 8, 2009. Expectations are high and the auction will include the coin set from 1915 which were minted in San Francisco to commemorate the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, other rare coins and paper money. The even will last five days and is open to the public.
