Treasure hunting in the Philippines has been an exciting, promising hobby since World War II. Booty is supposedly scattered across Southeast Asia, hidden by Japanese occupation forces before the U.S. liberated the country and the exotic caves provide endless hope for treasure hunters and metal detectorists alike.
But as of early 2008, only Filipino citizens are allowed to conduct any kind of treasure hunt - meaning all booty is off limits to treasure hunting tourists like you and me! But it isn’t easy for the citizens either as they’ll need a one-year permit from the government and they’ll have to post a “surety bond” if the caves are on public or private land.
Why now, you ask? Well, their government has declared “all caves of cultural, palaeontological and historical value, with ancestral domains” and significant caves are off limits completely! This prompted all caves to come under government regulations to protect the country’s heritage and all items found and determined to have historical or cultural value will now revert to the government, while a committee will determine the share for the finder of other items of value.
The moral of the story - Look up the latest laws before you take your metal detector on vacation with you and stay up-to-date in order to stay out of trouble!

Hi JoJo,
Honestly, every place has such different rules that you have to really narrow down your search. We posted the Philippines article to highlight how rules and laws can change suddenly, and it’s best to contact the local authorities before trying to search and recover any treasure. Goodluck!

gil,
Good day! sory i thought u r n phils, im often in the construction site and we dont have computer in there.. we once used a PMr3 anderson rod locator and reviewed with a rod locator from japan with 4 sticks and did not affirm with the former detection, our site is very accessible and all are private properties, we have already a contract aggrement n 1 of our sites and d rest we have verbal arrangements already. one of our sites is n lake sebu, south cotabato.. we have 4×4 pick-up and pmanpower including security.. we have minimal budget as of now 4 dis purpose but if a sophisticated scanner confirms that its positive , then its easy for us to fund the project. what s your nationality f u dont mind? my email: neil_dalanon2000@yahoo.com…. hapi trip! neil

It is about time the Filipino Government has done something to protect its history and heritage. The indigenous peoples of the Philippines and foreigners have been destroying real history in the search for the nonexistent treasure of Yamashita.
Good move.

Go back to your boat hull cleaning and coin hunting in Florida. We filipinos enjoy treasure hunting here and you can’t stop us, kaya mamatay ka sa inggit…hehehe…alam ko kaya ka galit2 sa mga treasure hunter, nakabili ka kasi ng peke bara, swapang ka kasi buti nga…hahaha

from NORVIE-
we found 3 big stones form into triangle, when we open the 3 stones, the other 1 has a mark x…then we continue digged and we found a lot of logs and then under the logs there is a clay…only that part of the whole,so i wanna ask if there is a gold on it. . . .
ANSWER:
There could be something underneath but it not necessarily Gold. It could be Bomb or Chemicals.
***What led you to that project site?
-Do you have a MAP?
-Have you scanned the site for possible metal content?
-Do you have a live pointer?
-Is their a possible japanese occupation in that site?
-Is the soil component different from the sorrounding?
-Is their asphalt and coal tar on the soil and water?
-is their itchy acid?
-usually a gold treasure is buried near rivers.
if you have all those primary requirements then you are into something but if you don’t know how to deal with the water trap then you’ll loose everything.

TREASURE HUNTING RESTRICTIONS:
If you comply with the restriction, it’s like giving away your privacy and possible treasure. They will be monitoring you and take over your project once they have detected that you have struck the load.
BALIKATAN is one great disguise how our government gives away our buried treasures. Sayang yun!
