On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. The aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.
We will be participating in this event. Metal detector enthusiast as a group seem to be very aware of environmental concerns, so this should be a fun event. If you have any ideas for a story, please let us know in the comments.
Here’s a video from the Organization that started it all:

I do metal detecting stuff at the beach, and we always have a bag with us to pick up bottle caps, etc. This helps keep the beaches clean, and also helps the next person with a metal detector not have to dig up trash. You might say something about that. I like the idea.

When metal detecting I carry a bag to pick up the metal trash and litter from the beaches I hunt. Some mornings I may fill and dispose of as many as 3 bags of trash. On one small beach I had to clear out 4 bags of trash before starting my hunt.
I also dig every signal and remove sharp, rusty metal from the sand. I detect the playgrounds in my neighborhood to remove harmful metal.

John , thanks for the comment! If everyone were like you, MDing the beach would be a lot more enjoyable.

Remember to use canvas or denim bags, so that you’re not contributing to the trash problem with a plastic bag.
Also, I’ve come across detectorists who quietly say to themselves, “oh that bleep is just trash” and walk away without digging it up and disposing of it properly. I am happy to hear that most of you are responsible mders.
Why not designate a “national clean up day” for mders to focus on finding and removing trash? Md clubs could get t-shirts explaining what their doing. Maybe those watching and reading the t-shirts will pitch in.
